Just a college boy cooking his way through life.
“Cooking made me feel creative and powerful, and that is possibly the truest reason for my continuing preoccupation with the art of eating.” — M.F.K. Fisher

Broccoli Bacon Basil Pizza
It’s pretty hard to make a bad pizza…yet somehow, all of the pizza joints around here (Pizza Days, Andrea’s, Nick’s, etc.) manage to screw things up. I guess the customer base, i.e. drunk college students, isn’t too discerning.
Anyhow, pizza makes for a pretty quick-and-dirty weeknight dinner. Only a little work for a lot of delish - perfect for the busy 20-something, amiright? One could go even quicker and dirtier with a frozen store-bought pizza, but we like to take things a cut above. Hence, white sauce from scratch and self-assembly. And you can toss the pizza dough (and subsequently make a mess of the kitchen, but whatev)! It’s more fun this way, srsly.
Pizza dough
A buncha broccoli
4 slices of bacon
Cheeseeeeeeeee
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 onion, minced
1 C heavy cream
1/2 C flour
10 basil leaves, chopped
Oregano
Salt
Pepper
2 T butter
For the sauce, saute the garlic and onions in butter in a small pot. Add the heavy cream and stir in the flour. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly, then throw in the basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Adjust spices to taste.
Preheat the oven to 450F. Cook bacon in a skillet, pat away the grease with a paper towel - unless you prefer a heart attack, but you’re already putting bacon on a pizza - and tear into small pieces. Roll out/toss pizza dough and coat with flour. Spread sauce over the surface and sprinkle on the cheese, bacon, and broccoli. Bake for about 20-25 minutes.
